Receding hairline, thinning hair, dry scalp, and dull hair are the most niggling hair issues for style-conscious people out there. A good solution to all these problems lies in shampooing the right way. This is the bare minimum that even a time-lacking individual can afford to do to maintain his hair healthy and beautiful.

To help you get on your path to healthy hair, I am sharing these top-notch tips from Mr. Rajesh Kumar Lakher, Creative Art Director at Mr. Barber. The seasoned Hairstylist holds an abundance of knowledge on hair care and maintenance from working with a variety of hair types and textures for over two decades. Here he’s giving his two cents on how to shampoo the right way.

Whether you're struggling with dryness or frizz, or simply want to boost your hair's overall health and shine, these expert recommendations will surely help you get closer to the dream hair you see in shampoo commercials. So, let's get started:

Determine the Right Washing Frequency

One of the most common questions people have is, "How often should I wash my hair?" Don’t be surprised as the expert says every day if you can. It’s a myth that we should wash our hair as seldom as possible. Our scalp is an extension of our face, and even more prone to sweating and sweat accumulation, so it requires cleansing as much as your face needs. What’s important is to select the right products, keeping in mind your hair type and concerns.

Preparing for the Perfect Wash

Before hopping into the shower, do a little detangling with your fingers and ensure that you minimize the knots. Using a pre-shampoo treatment like a hair mask or oil can provide deep nourishment and hydration, leaving your locks feeling soft and revitalized. I recommend using Macadamia Professional’s Deep Repair Masque for 5-10 minutes on damp hair pre-shampoo and experience shiny and elastic hair post-wash.

The Art of Shampooing

When it's time to shampoo, wet your hair thoroughly with water. Now, grab a gentle shampoo and apply a small amount of shampoo (about a quarter-sized portion) to your palms and lather it up before gently massaging it into your scalp. Should you need any recommendations, I suggest Naturica Repairing Deep Shampoo with Olive Oil, Pistachio Oil, and Keratin Extracts. Its Vitamin E-enriched formula gives deep nutrition to your hair and fights the effects of external pollutants on hair. While

shampooing, focus on the roots, and avoid harshly scrubbing the lengths to prevent damage.

The Magic of Conditioner

Conditioning is crucial for maintaining healthy, silky-smooth hair. After rinsing out the shampoo, apply conditioner from mid-length to ends, avoiding the roots. Let the conditioner sit for a couple of minutes to allow it to deeply hydrate your strands. If you have oily hair, use a lightweight conditioner such as Macadamia Weightless Repair Conditioner. It is an ultra-lightweight formula that doesn’t weigh down finer hair textures and provides them with life, body, and volume. If you go for regular conditioner, spare your scalp, and apply only to the ends.

Rinse, Rinse, Rinse

Thoroughly rinsing your hair is vital to ensure no residue is left behind. Use tap water for the final rinse, as it helps seal the hair cuticles, boosting shine and reducing frizz.

Towel Drying the Right Way

After showering, gently squeeze out excess water from your hair with a soft, microfiber. Avoid rough towel-drying or vigorously rubbing your hair, as it can lead to breakage and aggravated frizz. Instead, pat or blot your hair shafts to absorb moisture and allow it to air dry naturally whenever possible.

Styling Tips Post-Wash

Once your hair is damp, apply a heat protectant spray or cream if you plan to use heat-styling tools. Always use a wide-toothed comb or a brush with soft bristles to detangle your hair. You can go for Olivia Garden’s Healthy Hair Bamboo Comb. It is an eco-friendly comb with perfectly designed teeth for gentle brushing and anti-static hair. Start from the end and work your way up to avoid unnecessary hair breakage. If you're using a blow dryer, opt for the lowest heat setting and keep it at a safe distance from your hair to minimize damage.

Winding up

There, you have all the knowledge about the right washing tips and a few of my sincere recommendations. Remember, just making the right considerations and making minute changes to your regular hair-washing routine can go a long way in maintaining the vitality, elasticity, and radiance of your natural hair, so don’t slack and do stick to the right routine.
